Social Worker

Job Description 

A non-profit organisation in Johannesburg is looking to hire an experienced Social Worker to support and strengthen family functioning. Duties include promoting, maintaining and developing the psychosocial functioning of clients. Suitable candidates will need to have a degree in social work, be registered with the SACSSP and have a minimum of 3-5 years experience in the field. This is a permanent, full-time position.


Case Work:

  • Offering counselling services to various members of the community, including children, residents, individuals, couples, and families
  • Providing services aimed at preserving family unity
  • Conducting visits to hospitals when necessary
  • Organising and facilitating case conferences and family meetings
  • Managing crisis situations
  • Referring individuals to specialised services as needed

Engaging in group work:

  • Planning and leading group sessions Conducting needs assessments and developing proposals accordingly

Engaging in community work:

  • Participating in community development projects as required
  • Compiling relevant presentations when necessary


  • Sharing knowledge to support the growth of volunteers, students, care workers, social workers, and social auxiliary staff
  • Providing public education on psychosocial matters
  • Speaking at, writing articles for, arranging, and/or participating in seminars and conferences as appropriate


  • Maintaining and enhancing professional qualifications, skills, and knowledge related to the field of work
  • Pursuing personal professional development through internal and external opportunities
  • Attending conferences, lectures, and workshops
  • Participating in research conducted by the agency
  • Initiating and completing research projects beneficial to the organisation
  • Ensuring the acquisition of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points
  • Facilitating a cooperative and mutually beneficial relationship with the multidisciplinary team
  • Liaising and scheduling meetings with relevant internal divisions as necessary
  • Attending psychiatric clinics when required
  • Facilitating a collaborative and mutually beneficial working relationship with external affiliates and organisations

Handling ad-hoc tasks and administrative duties:

  • Ensuring proper maintenance of client, group and project information
  • Keeping records and statistics up to date
  • Writing relevant reports when appropriate
  • Liaising with and reporting to relevant internal and external stakeholders


  • Relevant Social Worker Degree
  • Registration with SACSSP
  • Minimum 3 – 5 years’ experience
