Social Worker

Job Description 

  • $55 – $60 p/h + super + Free accommodation (3 hours from Brisbane)
  • 3-6 month locum position with possible extension
  • Social Worker to join a well established Aboriginal Health Organisation

On behalf of our client which is a well established Aboriginal Health Service, we are seeking an experienced Social Worker to join the Child and Family team in Cherbourg in the Darling Downs region of QLD. The child and family team provide high quality support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to connect people in the community with support, healing and cultural connection by empowering families to stay together and reconnect with self, culture, country and kin. The Program promotes family wellbeing and sustainable community connection. With a commitment to recognise the unique family dynamics whilst applying an all-inclusive approach that actively engages with all family members. The team have a commitment to focus on the children, empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parents, families and communities whilst supporting clients with a holistic and strength based approach.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high quality and culturally responsive individual and group case management to clients from youth, adults and families in the community.
  • Actively engage with the community by promoting awareness of related social and emotional issues.
  • Develop and deliver educational/promotional activities for clients, families and community.
  • Participate in outreach service delivery of community education plans.
  • Support clients in the area of mental health and social and emotional wellbeing.
  • Provide suitable and individual referral pathways for further services to ensure wellbeing.
  • Work as part of as a multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic services are provided.
  • Case Conference with all relevant stakeholders.
  • Facilitate and Educate during information sessions offered to the community.

About You

  • Qualification in Social Work & Current Membership with AASW or eligibility to obtain
  • Demonstrated time management skills to manage a case load and set goals / objectives
  • Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities and their leaders, respecting traditional culture, values and ways of doing business.
  • Interpersonal skills that demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate and negotiate/liaise with clients and members of the community.
  • Ability to work with vulnerable young people and their families with an understanding of the holistic needs of the client and their families.
  • Current Blue card and National Police Check or eligibility to obtain
  • Current open drivers licence
