RD Engineer

Job Description 

  • Conduct new product summaries and progressive situation analyses to identify customer requirements, product functions, and raw material specifications.
  • Coordinate with customers to understand their product specifications and ensure their design concepts are reviewed and considered during the development process.
  • Develop work instructions (WI) for product development and take responsibility for Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP).
  • Prepare process flowcharts and Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (P-FMEA) to identify potential risks and mitigate them.
  • Collaborate with mold makers to confirm mold specifications and facilitate the development of new molding methods.
  • Provide production support in case of mold-related issues and troubleshoot any problems that arise.
  • Conduct trials for new molds on injection machines, assess their conditions and make necessary adjustments.
  • Coordinate with mold makers for the creation and modification of molds based on new mold concepts.
  • Liaise with customer engineering teams to ensure customer requirements are accurately translated into product specifications.
  • Provide technical and application engineering support to customers regarding fastening solutions.
  • Design and develop new products that meet customer performance requirements and ensure their validation.
  • Collaborate with external and internal customers for prototype sample submission and validation.
  • Ensure adherence to customer product design and testing timelines.
  • Actively participate in Value Engineering/Value Analysis (VE/VA) activities with customers.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to ensure timely sample delivery to customers.
  • Apply knowledge of the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Statistical Process Control (SPC), Measurement System Analysis (MSA), and Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) to ensure quality standards.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in fastener technology.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field. Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Proven experience as an RD Engineer or in a similar research and development role in the fastener industry.
  • Familiarity with Quality Control methodologies such as PPAP, SPC, GR&R, and PFMEA.
  • Proficiency in product design and development processes, including concept review, prototyping, and validation.
  • Experience with mold specifications, molding methods, and troubleshooting mold-related issues.
  • Excellent coordination and communication skills to collaborate effectively with customers and internal teams.
  • Ability to interpret customer requirements and translate them into product specifications.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of value engineering/value analysis principles.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes, materials, and fastening solutions.
  • Proficiency in using computer-aided design (CAD) software.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
